ENMU feels privileged to have so many active duty military service members, veterans, and military family members use the university to pursue their educational dreams.  As such they work hard to assist them through the application process and to see they get the benefits they are entitled to.  ENMU also directs student military members and vets to all available general scholarships and military affiliated scholarships.

  • ENMU’s Application Process for Military Members

ENMU’s military program provides the educational opportunity for you or your adult family members to complete a college degree during your military service and across multiple postings. If you are currently on active duty, ENMU’s website takes you through the process to apply, and offers all the documents you need online.  For additional help, contact the ENMU Veterans Services for contact information to a VA certifying official.

Options Designed to Ensure ENMU Students Succeed

Eastern New Mexico University is ready to help students who wish to apply to the university but want to see if their previous college credits transfer.  If you have earned college credits while in high school or want to transfer from one of ENMU’s partnership colleges, they can help answer your questions.  If you have earned your AAS or AS degree in a career-technical related field, ENMU’s Transfer Center can help make your transition as easy as possible.  See below for answers to FAQs.

  • Will My College Credits Transfer to ENMU?

In order to transfer credits to ENMU, the coursework must be taken at an accredited institution and must be taken for a grade.  The Transfer Evaluation System (TES) (see ENMU’s website) provides guidance as to how your credits may transfer but the final determination is made by the deans or department chairs once you are accepted into ENMU.

  • How Do Transfer Partnerships Work?

ENMU currently has partnership agreements for a variety of programs with several area colleges including Amarillo College, CNM-Albuquerque, Clovis Community College, ENMU-Roswell and ENMU-Ruidoso.  When you transfer from one of these colleges, into a ENMU program, the agreement allows you to transfer your course credits and start working toward a bachelor’s degree.

  • Do You Have an AAS or an AS and Want to Earn a Bachelor’s Degree?

If you have earned an AAS, an AS, or have significant credits in a career-technical related discipline from an accredited institution, ENMU has the ideal program.  The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree program is designed with the distance learner in mind and makes it easy to work full-time while you earn your degree.
Remember, applying to ENMU is free and all of the documents you need are online.  Please contact ENMU’s Transfer Center and allow the transfer counselors to answers any questions.

ENMU’s Campus is Surrounded by Art and Culture

Along with exceptional programs and coursework, Eastern New Mexico University is proud to offer students and the community world-class venues including museums, art galleries, and libraries.  Many of the museums and galleries are free or only cost a minimal fee and provide many hours of enjoyment.
  • Miles Mineral Museum - A Mineral Collection that Students Can Enjoy
One of the motivating factors behind the Miles Mineral Museum was the founder, Fred Miles, who wanted to make his collection accessible to students and the general public to enjoy.   Miles and his wife began collecting minerals when they moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1928 and began exploring along the Pecos River.  The collection was originally in the back room of Fred’s Texaco station in Roswell before the arrangement with ENMU was made to display the approximately 2,500 geological, archaeological and anthropological specimens.  The museum is free to the public and located in Roosevelt Hall, Room 103.

  • Roosevelt County Historical Museum – See the Area’s History Come to Life

The Roosevelt County Historical Museum allows visitors to be immediately swept back in time to the early days of Roosevelt County.  Among the displays, you will find relics from area homes including antique furniture, an Edison phonograph, a printing press, and a collection of medical instruments.  The museum was founded in 1940 and all of the items were donated by county residents.

  • Runnels Gallery

Whether you are on ENMU’s campus as a visitor or a student, do not forget to take a look at the Runnels Gallery.  Located in the Golden Library, it is where the public can view the art work of ENMU students, faculty and guest artists.  It is open during library hours.

  • Jack Williamson Science Fiction Library

Also if you are a sci-fi fan, you must visit the Jack Williamson Science Fiction Library, which contains more than 30,000 volumes of books, sci-fi pulps from as early as the 1900’s and other materials.  Please see ENMU’s website for more information.

Culture Around ENMU

As ENMU’s mission is to provide students with a rich educational experience, they are proud to be home to several world-class, one-of-a-kind venues, including several museums and art galleries.  Open to students as well as the general public, ENMU welcomes you to visit these venues the next time you are on campus.

  • Blackwater Draw Museum

Opened in May of 2017, the Blackwater Draw Museum is now situated in the heart of ENMU’s campus.  For over forty years, the museum has housed artifacts from around the Southwest U.S. and the new location makes it more accessible for students, school groups and families.  From The Blackwater Draw Collections of the Clovis Site, The Miles Anthropological Collection, The Charlie Parks Collection and more, you will discover 13,500 years of pre-history among the over 6,400 artifacts on display.  Highlights include elaborately beaded, child-sized and adult moccasins and armbands as well as murals painted by Shirley East for the original museum.

  • Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark

The Blackwater Draw site was incorporated into the National Register of Historic Places in 1961, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1982.  The landmark is a 640 acre site that has been an important contribution to our knowledge and understanding of the cultural chronology of North America as early as 13,000 years ago.  Containing a spring-fed Pleistocene Lake, the area has provided outstanding bone preservation and welded implements made from stone, bone and ivory by the region's first inhabitants. In addition many species of extinct fauna and smaller animal kills have been found in cultural levels.  As a major water source, the site continues to provide archaeologists an extensive glimpse into the area’s pre-historic and historic life.
Please visit ENMU’s website to learn more about this amazing look into the past.  Also if you are interested in studying anthropology, ENMU offers some of the country’s top programs.
As New Mexico's largest regional comprehensive university, ENMU offers students more than 90 undergraduate, graduate and certificate options. Every year thousands of dollars’ worth of scholarships is given out to deserving ENMU students.  For example the ENMU Foundation alone awards over $400,000 in scholarships each year. There are a variety of reasons a scholarship is awarded including: academic achievement, financial need, leadership positions, campus/community activities, and work experience.  As each scholarship has different criteria, you need to read through the eligibility requirements before you apply to make sure you meet them.  The Financial Aid Office can provide more information on ENMU scholarships and answer any questions.  Here are a couple of scholarship opportunities.

  • Boundless Opportunity Scholarship

Each year, motivated non-traditional students from undergraduate degree and certificate programs are awarded the Daniel's Fund Boundless Opportunity Scholarship (BOS).  The Daniels Fund is a legacy of cable television pioneer, Bill Daniels, and scholarships are open to students at colleges and universities in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.  Criteria for application include: Adult learners; GED recipients; Former foster care youth; Former juvenile justice youth; Returning military; Individuals pursuing EMT/paramedic training; and Individuals pursuing early childhood education (ECE) certification.

  • Outside Donor Scholarships

You will find there are also various scholarships available from outside businesses, agencies and individuals as well as through major corporations and foundations.  ENMU’s website provides links to some of the most commonly awarded scholarships received by students.  The university also encourages students to explore scholarship options that may be available in your own community.

  • Native American Tribal Scholarship

To receive a Native American Tribal Scholarship, students need to request an application from their respective tribe.  Students then need to bring that application and their Financial Need Analysis form (FNA) to the Office of Student Financial Aid.  Please see ENMU’s website for further details on how to apply and links to information you may need.
